Canada’s employment rate may have dropped in 2023 but the number of ride-hailing and delivery gig workers has surged, driven largely by newcomers seeking quick income.
The workforce for app-based ride-hailing and delivery companies like Uber, DoorDash and Lyft grew 46 per cent in 2023 to 365,000 — up from 250,000 in 2022, according to the most recent Statistics Canada labour force survey.
